Each individual has one's own personal response to each image. The descriptions below are simply generalities. If you feel differently from what is listed for a particular image, go with that feeling. It's perfectly valid for you.
As a result of practicing these meditations, increased awareness of the world around you, including others' thoughts & feelings, may occur. This is healthy & normal. However if you are not used to this, it is best to treat these meditations - especially the advanced ones - like receiving a massage or energy work treatment; practice them when you do not have to be anywhere or focus on a particular task for a while. This also allows full integration time, thus getting the most out of your meditation sessions.
Additionally, these meditations may facilitate expanded thinking & creative ability, as well as increase your perceptibility of multiple dimensions of reality. You may experience emotional releases such as old sadness or profound joy. If you are a musical composer, you may hear music as you do these meditations. What you hear will be unique to you. Feel free to compose this music. (If you do, please send the artist a recording for her own inspiration & enjoyment!)
For each meditation, sit at least 4 feet from the image. View it at as close to eye-level as possible. The more well-lit the room is the better, as long as it is within your comfort level. Adjust yourself or the image to where there is no significant glare on it. If you wear contact lens, use eye glasses instead, if possible, to prevent distracting eye dryness. Note: the word "gaze" refers to where your eyes are gently focused (i.e. what your eyes are pointed at), while the word "attention" refers to where your awareness is focused (i.e. what your awareness is honed on). While the word "brain" normally refers to a physical apparatus & the word "mind" normally refers to a conceptual component of human nature, they are used interchangeably in these meditations in most cases. (An exception would be when you are directed to notice feeling sensations in your brain; in this case, the physical brain is being referred to.)
If you want, you can think of a question, problem, or intention (such as of something you want manifested in your life) before beginning any of these meditations, especially the advanced ones. The meditation helps you make connections in your consciousness which will lead you to your answer, solution, or goal.
In each meditation, you'll be instructed to gently gaze at the center of the image most of the time. This takes practice, as your eyes will tend to want to move about the image. Learning to hold your gaze while your awareness is elsewhere is part of the point. It may be helpful to gaze as if you're looking through the center. Each time you do these meditations it will become easier as your brain develops more neural pathways.
